I wanted to drop in to say hi and talk about various things. First off I would like to commend all the parents out here that go above and beyond to keep their children safe and who listen to their babies. I’am experiencing some very alarming things myself having a special needs child in the public school system and finding out that when parents are left out of the loop wheter intentionally or unintentionally that it only takes away from a childs best overall experience. I want to take this time to say please parents who bus their children or drop them off and pick them up. PLEASE observe your childs behavior especially if they are non-verbal. Recognize that something may be occurring with them on the bus rides or with them at school to warrant their change in behavior. Get the contacts of all of those OVER the staff at the Dept of Ed or Special Education Office as it may just be that imperative that you speak to those NOT connected to or aka “buddy buddy” with the Principals and AP’s. Utilize the Parent Advocates for Children’s Hotline and even take the free course/class to become a parent advocate yourself. In any case wheter you have taken a class or not YOU ARE YOUR CHILD’S FIRST ADVOCATE!
I just wanted to say that first and formost. And also, when you can drop in to see who and how individuals interact with your child please do so. Get the Parent coordinators info to gather all the dates for meetings and workshops so that you can attend. Ask questions there and network! I’am a Teacher at heart and always will be. And when I became a para as well I wanted to make a positive difference in a childs life. My own child ended up proving to need all that I have to offer and so that has been the case that he is my main priority. Bottom line is that all who work with such children ought to be properly trained. They should have patience and understanding. They should be driven to find solutions to create a better atmosphere for the child. Not to help create the meltdowns but help prevent them. Not to demonize a toddler or adolescent with a disability and push them down some “school to prison pipeline”. But tap into their full potential and help them to be the best that they can be. It pains me to see and know that many schools do not get adequate staffing or training to deal with special needs children. Yet interact with them daily! Also, that IEP’s where Behavior Intervention Plans should be created are not and therefore the staff are running around like chickens with their heads cut off when encountering a child who needs an ACTIVE PLAN AS PER THEIR IEP states. In short parents it’s up to us to protect, ensure of childrens IEP’s are followed and respect is given to our children when we are not present. Now that I have spoke on what is most dear to my heart we can move on to what life offers that counters all the stresses of everyday life….for me that is my love for Organic and plant based skincare lines. My new Vegan lifestyle, Beauty box subscription boxes and Food subscription boxes that makes every month feel like Christmas 😍
We (me and my mini me) are looking forward to recieving our second “Love with Food” box. The link for this one can be found in the prior post! We are also looking forward to the “Degustaboxusa” that rarely dissapoints. Since it is November I have my fingers crossed for some good pumpkin products or cake mix! As far as Beauty boxes are concerned the only one that excites me is the “Onxybox”. Links for this box can also be found in a prior post of mine along with Degustaboxusa! Now as far as new products that I have tried recently and have fallen in love with and may have mentioned in a prior post and will again they are the “Goddiss Yoni Wash” and “Blemishless liquid face mask” by The Urban Goddiss, the “Lanbeli Soap” and lip balm by Senica Naturals , the “Starlightbutter” by Mercuryiii. The “Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Rinse” by DP HUE that I now know of thanks to the October 2017 We Are Onyx Box. Last but not least the “Hemp Heal Hempseed Master Salve” by Natural Mixologist! And if you follow me on IG then you know that there are some new products by different creators that I want to try asap! Im on a budget and actually have enough of what we need and will not be greedy but when Im down to my last plant based bar of soap and moisturizer I will surely be checking the following businesses out! These are their IG accounts and their links. There are some Jewelry and Apparel accounts among them as well! Check them all out when you can!
On this note Im out. I had a big bowl of Oatmeal with some apple sauce, raw sugar and raisins and I just want to sit and chillax . Ah, and work with my LO on his potty training since he is home today. (School trip today that parents were not allowed on unless they arrived at the site of the trip separately -___-….. smh. Such a shame. We shall take our own trips with family where I can ensure his safety. If you know your child you can relate) Until my next post….stay sweet ☺
Hey ya’ll! Been gone a little too long but Im back with goodies to share! Around labor day as you know ALMOST every business had a sale. Well, here’s what I took advantage of primarily for my little one via the Love With Food box!
And here is the first box! Early might I add at that which gets them brownie points for sure!
I’am very happy I took advantage of their labor day sale on this 3 month subscription now! I have extra treats for my little one and a few pieces for my purse lol.
If I wasn’t so tired I would share some other stuff but if you follow me on Instagram you would already know! In any case I will be back to post again so until then. Stay sweet✌
Hey ya’ll! Omg, I feel like a stranger on my own site because it has been waaaaayyy too long since my last post! Twenty five days to be exact. I have been on IG though so my apologies for not giving this site the attention I gave it when I first started it but that will soon change. I have some good news. My schedule is settled now and I shall be re-vamping this site shortly come October! For those who love the simplicity of this layout you have nothing to worry about because so do I! There will be some minor cosmetic changes to the set up BUT bigger changes on the quality of photos you will be seeing soon! Im about to get my photography on and combine everything I love. From foods and geeky boxes to make up subscriptions and more….it’s gonna be lit! But enough about that, let me tell ya’ll about how I actually won some goodies via a IG contest thrown by one of my newest and favorite beauty box subscriptions called WeAreOnyx! If you dont know about them here is your opportunity to learn about them now ESPEACIALLY if you are a woman of color! What did I win? I won three lippies by Clecosmetics and to be more specific they are called “Melting Lip Powders” in the colors Barbie Pink, Milk choco and Ulta Summer. I also won their non foaming cleanser and their Oxygen foaming cleanser. See images below…
If you follow me on IG at tie_aka_kickrocs101 then you have seen these images and more so I will stop here! If you have not then you should go over to my IG and take a look! I have never won anything so this was fun and exciting! Im not gonna lie though Im saddened because I know my chances of winning another great contest prize via WeAreOnxy are limited now. But hopefully one of the companies I have contacted expressing how much I would love to review their products will grace me with some goodies and I will feel the same excitement as if I have won something. But while Im talking about excitement let me show you this month’s WeAreOnxy box I was EXTREMELY excited for and was not dissapointed by one bit! Check it out, new box and all with interior artwork I opted to show off by turning the box inside out and re-folding.
I love everything I received in this September 2017 box! Perfume by TokyoMilk that lasts and smells good! Law Beauty Essentials polish in 2pm wine that is so Divine. The lipstick by Belle Pierre that is velvety soft, moisturizing with a sweet note. The great for sensitive skin 4 in 1 lotus facial Cleanser by Purlisse and the finishing powder by Kiss Professional I can’t wait to use. The perfect box…..and I say this every month lol. It was even more perfect since I won one of their contests.
There are some other things I want to mention in more detail but for now I will just share that they are so worth checking out. One because what they have are plant based and organic and second if you follow me not just to watch my hair journey but my skin journey you will see that I’am maintaining what use to be my so problematic skin with these two companies products that I just adore now. If you didn’t know before now you know….Natural Mixologist and The Plant Laboratory products are EVERYTHING to me!
Again if you want more of my input on the two above companies and products just check my IG page out. Until next post, stay sweet!
Hey everyone! I just wanted to drop in and share the email I received a little earlier from this subscription company I have tried before and have blogged about…
our journey must come to an end.”
If you loved this box and were currently subscribed to this box Im so sorry for your lost. And to this company I hope if you decide to start another box service that you are as successful as you want to be! I know many have enjoyed what you guys offered with the Eggdrop box and you will be missed. To those that follow Nerdy Newb on Youtube Im sure your familiar with another subscription box that recently closed shop but not as gracefully….I wish them the best as well. When I recall their name I’ll update this….
To all the parents reading how are you doing today? Have your little ones started school already or are they about to? Be it be Homeschool, Public school or Private school the time is upon us lol. I have rather enjoyed the quietness of summer but at last it must come to an end. Im trying to mentally prepare for all the moving and shacking (Literally) I will have to endure traveling everyday and prepare my ear drums for all the shouting or wtmi (way too much info) conversations that will commence by the young in public. The only thing Im looking forward to is my little one’s achievements throughout the year to come and COOLER WEATHER! Let’s talk about this disrespectful weather and how it has played me lol. I have so finally mastered the perfect full face look highlight and all but could barely wear it this summer out of fear of looking like a sweaty hot mess 😂😂😂 Damn it! The only Hightlight of it all (no pun intended) is that I have come to love the no full face look. The simplicity of rocking a cute winged eye, some shadow and a poppin’ lippie! Or just a poppin’ lippie!
I actually have discovered some very cool new make up goodies thanks to various subscriptions and Amazon. Like this matte lipgloss set by SXC cosmetics that I found on Amazon a week or so ago as a prime deal at $6 and change…
But I also want to mention that I have tried and retried some food/snack boxes as well! Two new companies were the Tokyotreat box and the MunchPak box. (Im not sure right now if I uploaded pics from our first and last Tokyotreat box from April 2o17 so I will include it here now) But the MunchPak box is from this month August 2017 and our first time trying it. If these are not highlighted link’s right now dont worry they will be later. You should know by now that I type to my hearts content and then come back to proof read. Im honestly hoping that one day I will proof read and find zero errors but ummmm yea not sure when that will occur lol. Anyway, one of the food/snack boxes we revisted (me and my mini me) was the small box by Univeral Yums! I was trying to be frugal so we got the small box and because it was Columbia snacks this month I figured we’d appreaciate it no matter the size/amount of items and we did! Everything was yummy. Let me just insert the pics now… here’s the Universal Yums box (small box)
And here is the MunchPak Box!
Here is the Tokyotreat box that I possibly may have blogged about buy dont have time to check so Im just gonna stick this pic here…if I have someone let me know! I have quite a number of posts. And we have tried quite a few snack boxes…
Hey everyone! So, I want to keep track of this short hair cut to long hair experience here to look back on and say aaaawwwww. I did this back in 2012 and by June 2017 I looked like this so it wont take too long
In July I joined my mini me when I took him to get his first hair cut ever. He “told” me that I had to do it with him and I said sure! I had been so bored with my hair up to that point not to mention hot and bothered thanks to the heat that I wanted to do a big chop. Dont get it twisted, I loved doing twists on my natural hair but craved a different look. Also, I could tell I had put too much tension on the front of my hair doing styles with the half wigs. Also, I had always been tender headed so my scalp needed a break. Plus, I WANTED MY EDGES! I found out what was in the Ecostyling Gel that I loved so much and what those ingredients did thanks to a very informative youtubers video that could have contributed to the thinning out and lost of some of my edges. I like to think that I’m nice with a half wig…..
But I slowed down and had started to style my own hair just as much….prior to twisting I would mostly rock a puff.
Ultimately, I decided my scalp needed a break from having hair gathered up in buns, pony tails, geled down and twisted and I wanted to enjoy the rest of this summer feeling the breeze on my head and so at the beginning of July with my mini me here I was….
Only thing is I totally forgot about my little bald spot thanks to a bad take out session of a glued in weave from my early 20’s -__- lol. You can kinda see it here in the front
But Im over it….can’t you tell lol
Well, it is July 29th 2017 a dreary saturday morning and Im sharing my progress as to date. This is where my hair is at now some weeks later…
And Im having fun with it!
Itches like crazy….
So I’am looking for some great scalp thirst quenching oils and creams now. I’am excited to watch my growth throughout the years to come again.
Even threw a wig on the other day that I had only previously worn as a half when it was intended to be worn as a full wig. Well, it got worn in the “correct” fashion now 😅.
Yup, Im gonna enjoy this hair growth journey to the fullest! Im getting my excercise on as well! Aside from my subscription box blog posts I will drop in every now and again with a length check update. Also, I will be trying some new oils and creams so I will be back to blog about them as well! Until next post, stay sweet 😙
What can I say other than I’am completely satisfied with the products selected yet again! The theme was on point and well…I’ll just leave the link to my unboxing video right here WeAreOnyx Unboxing! I have yet to photographe each item but the video will do the items justice. For such a small box it sure packs a punch of goodness 😍
Hey guys! I totally could not patiently wait for this so I will just cut the small talk and get right into what we all recieved this month and for me my very first box from We Are Onyx!
Oh, let me just say that I’am hype about every single product! I shared the card above that on one side features the artwork and on the other the contents so you can see right away that this box is giving you value! I was able to subscribe with a code for $5 off each month for the duration of my stay with them making this and my future boxes $20 flat! Can you see why Im excited 😄But even at the orignal price of $25 this box is worth it! Now unto the first item by Rutz Naturals for your viewing pleasure…..
And the Second product by Oils Of The World…..
Now the third item by Eden BodyWorks almost made me cry when I thought it had all spilled out since the exterior was wet but it had not and the bottle does not have any punctures so we are good. It just leaked a little (Unlike the other oil this one did not come in bubble wrap ) Smells amazing so I’m happy it is still full!
And the fourth item by Measurable Difference a blush in Strawberry Sorbet 😍 I like Blushes…I normally use them as eyeshadow too so guess who is happy 😊
The fifth item is by ColourPop and from their Lippie Stix line in the color Dukes Matte!
They even included and in their own words “A lil nugget of gratitude!” By Rutz Naturals
I’am very happy I decided to try this box out! It looked like a box that would have items that not only I but my mini me could use and they did not disappoint! I will be back to add my opinions on the other items as we use them. The lippie Stix is already a winner because come on you can’t go wrong with a lippe really. If I had recieved an undesirable color I would have mixed it with another to create a whole new color but that was not the case today. I usually receive pink lippies from other subscriptions so this was a pleasant surprise to say the least. Also, it says matte but it has a subtle shine and is very smooth and moisturizing!
Hey ya’ll! So, I have already shared the contents of my IPSY Glam Bag on social media but I saved a few of my personal thoughts for here and a private account so here goes! I love the bag every single month that I receive it or that I’m subscribed to receive one.
It appears that they really do pay attention to your product reviews and the whole nine yards. They even went as far as to have one of the three faces of Ipsy be a young beautiful female of color aka what we call “Black”. And yes, she has blue eyes……so it would appear that it was too much to expect a black woman with a common eye color to be selected just like when “Blondes” with blue eyes are used when that is not a common physical trait. In any case at least they have included ALL representations more or less like the different types of people that subscribe to their beauty bag. I totally give them props for that! I already know what type of world and industry this is (sigh). One thing is always said like “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” and another thing is always projected like a standard of beauty or beauty hierarchy which tells you who the beholder is at the end of the day as far as how this society sees it lol. Before I get into what grinded my gears lets just take a look at what I got this month. I’ll post the link to my YouTube channel below so that you can see everything better afterwards.
Oh, I even took advantage of a Ipsy Deal they had and this is what came in that box
I have to say the polish so far is my favorite product from that offer!
Okay. Now, having said all the above lets Tak about what grinded my gears. The theme was what? VOLUME UP…. and they chose this month to have not one but TWO women of color for this theme that are not usually used for their campaigns and etc. Some may have missed the stereotyping but I did not! Sadly, in this Country and all over the world Women of color are said and ALWAYS depicted to be loud mouthed, outspoken or unmanageable females. Usually the darker the black female is the more “ratchet” her character has been as we have seen portrayed for YEARS on TV shows, movies and music. To the point that I honestly believe many sistas have bought into that image but that is a whole different topic for another post. Anyway, of ALL the months I find it no coincidence that two “black females” were used to promote the theme “Volume Up” and as they elaborated they wanted everyone to challenge themselves in regards to “Fearlessly Expressing” Themselves
-____- So for me it read as if and always that the only females who can do such are Black Woman. Bottom line, I found the whole bit insulting to me and to all the other race of women but then again black women are always depicted and have been for years as loud mouths and etc so this subliminal stereotypically representation nonsense probably went over so many peoples heads. You can think what you may or want to. I mean maybe others felt or will feel it was a compliment! To each their own. I CAN understand that as well and play devils advocate. I could have said to myself “Hey, who better to showcase for “Volume Up” than women of color whose natural hair defys gravity and whom could have easily modeled whatever line of mascara that promised volume. Whom have been labeled outspoken and etc primarily because they/we have had to speak up against SEVERAL INJUSTICES against us and our people throughout history so “surprise surprise” the stigma that is attached to us til this day is of such so why not own it! I know the flip side. TRUST ME. But Im just sharing what was my pet peeve this month regardless! And to my recollection I have never disliked their themes or execution of them. Even when they did not have anyone who looked like me I thought well hell that’s a just the normal run of the muck American style Advertising and Marketing by any other race to leave out those of color and if a company did include us I knew they just wanted our money or to appear politically correct lol (Shrugs). I can’t say for a fact that it was INTENTIONALLY done to offend anyone so I wont dwell on it. Of course it absolutely may have been done with the thought that no one would see it as such. They tend to put their “best foot forward” with positive vibes/images/messages out that it would be hard to suspect that. I only really care about the products coming my way each month so I saw the subs and brushed it to the side until some mins ago when I decided to blog. And in this day and age it may be a trivial matter and/or of little importance to anyone. And I know no one or no company is perfect so I will let them have this one. Anyway for a much better look at the products I receieved and their size check out my Ipsy Unbagging video on Youtube.
